Hi Emily. First of all congratulations on your wedding and a happy new year!
I think you’re one of the funniest and relatable cartoonists on Substack and Instagram and in print. I totally understand the drain of drawing and writing about yourself, I occasionally do that and it can put me in a bit of a weird headspace. How about posts on the minutiae of everything? I’d love to read your take on all kinds of inconsequential stuff and nonsense. That makes it personal without being personal if you know what I mean.
Sometimes it helps me to just look for a pattern, or tell stories you hear, versus stories you experience. Crazy fights you hear couples having that you don't have. Little things you overhear in ny. Questions people ask you. Questions you ask in a day. Every round thing you see in a day. A weird conversation from every bench on your block. Dog interactions in the park. Every dog that looks like their owner. On the next big snow, envision the conversations between all the weird snowpeople in prospect park. So glad your honeymoon was so great. I love the painting. Another idea! What was hard to paint in every creature in your painting. Ok I'm done. You're the best.
I went to Japan for my honeymoon too! It was the best.
Why are you supposed to put a bag on your head when trying on clothes? I didn't try on any clothes so I guess I never had this opportunity, haha.
Almost every time I write a substack post I struggle to think of what to say.
Then I word vomit feelings and think oh god this is is so boring and random!
Sometimes I find it helpful to write about my past, like stories about my life that felt important or interesting or reflective (if my current life feels boring, which it often does).

Thank you Keith :’) I’ll look for some inconsequential things to focus on

Thanks Lilah ❤️❤️❤️
I've been feeling the same way and it's nice to know I'm not alone! :-)

Anyway, love your work, Emily!
